What Is De-ionized Water From A Spotbye Water Systems Proprietary System?

Deionization is a common laboratory technique for generating purified water as needed. Since all natural water contains dissolved mineral salts, these compounds dissociate into positively charged cations and negatively charged anions in solution. The ion exchange process in deionization can effectively remove these ions to extremely low concentrations. Cation exchange resins eliminate sodium, calcium, magnesium and similar cations by substituting them with hydrogen ions (H+), forming acidic compounds that then require removal or neutralization through anion exchange resins. Note that operating the system beyond its specified parameters may result in surface damage, making proper usage essential.

Deionization systems utilize two main categories of anion resins: weak base and strong base varieties. Weak base resins effectively remove strong acids, whereas strong base resins replace chloride, sulfate, and other alkaline anions with hydroxide ions (OH-). The hydrogen ions (H+) released during cation exchange then combine with these hydroxide ions to produce pure water molecules (H2O). Given the exceptional purity achieved through deionization, water quality is typically assessed by measuring its electrical resistance (in ohm-centimeters). This process yields mineral-free water that prevents water spotting on vehicles. Ultimately, Spotbye Water Systems' patented technology combines advanced filtration with deionization to achieve unmatched results - completely eliminating all dissolved solids (0 ppm TDS).
