The Importance Of Adding Minerals To RO Filtered Water

Few people realize that calcium constitutes nearly 2% of total body mass, or that magnesium participates in more than 300 vital biochemical processes. While we acknowledge mineral importance, we rarely appreciate their full physiological impact - or the consequences of deficiency.

 

Drinking water contributes approximately 20% of our daily mineral intake*. Modern diets frequently fail to meet mineral requirements, particularly for individuals with dietary restrictions that limit consumption of mineral-rich foods. This nutritional gap creates significant health challenges for many.

 

Reverse Osmosis is great a filtering, but it's almost too good…

Reverse Osmosis (RO) filtration effectively removes contaminants - including viruses and larger particles - while allowing only pure water molecules to pass through. However, this high-efficiency process has significant drawbacks as it also eliminates essential minerals like calcium, potassium and magnesium.

 

The primary concern is water demineralization. The World Health Organization's research suggests consuming demineralized water may negatively impact health. While waterborne minerals shouldn't replace dietary sources, they serve as valuable nutritional supplements.

 

Additionally, mineral removal creates flat-tasting water that many find unpalatable. More critically, demineralization increases water acidity. Human physiology thrives in a slightly alkaline state (blood pH ~7.4), but RO water typically measures ≤7.0 pH. Chronic consumption of acidic water may contribute to acidosis, potentially linked to degenerative conditions.
