How many gallons can I filter before I need to change out a cartridge?

This question consistently ranks as our most frequently asked - and simultaneously the most complex to answer precisely. A universal solution doesn't exist because numerous variables influence filter longevity, many of which require impractical or expensive measurement.

A filter's operational lifespan depends fundamentally on its micron rating, filtration efficiency at that specific rating, available surface area, the concentration and particle size distribution of solids in your solution, among other technical factors. While theoretically possible to quantify all these parameters, the effort and cost typically outweigh the benefits.

Most clients initially conduct practical trials using various filter types and sizes - even with a 30" housing system, starting with 10" test cartridges provides valuable performance data. These trials reveal your product's filtration characteristics, enabling development of standardized operating protocols for future batches.

While we can't provide exact duration predictions, our customer purchase patterns offer reliable benchmarks. Small-to-medium operations typically replace filters biannually, while large-scale facilities often require monthly or bimonthly replacements.

What micron size filters should I buy?

This common yet complex question requires careful consideration of your specific filtration goals. To make an informed decision, it's essential to understand micron-scale measurements.

For perspective, the human eye typically discerns particles ≥40-50 microns. A strand of human hair measures approximately 70-100 microns in diameter. Our filter can remove both visible particulates and subvisible haze-forming particles (which become noticeable when concentrated, despite individual particles being invisible).
